Larry Powell, LTC, USA (Ret.)
Larry Powell grew up in Fraser, Michigan, and graduated from Western Michigan University in December 1979, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers.
During his military career, Larry held various combat and civil engineering roles, including Commander of an Airborne Engineer Company, Assistant Operations Officer for a Construction Engineer Battalion during Operation Desert Storm, Chief of the Engineering Branch in the Housing Division in the Republic of Panama, Deputy District Engineer for the Detroit District, and Director of Environmental Programs at the Pentagon for the Headquarters Department of the Army.
Larry is Airborne and Ranger qualified and is authorized to wear the Senior Parachutist Badge and the Ranger Tab. His military awards include the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal, among others.
After retiring from the Army in 2002, Larry worked as a contractor with the U.S. Army Tank Automotive and Armaments Command, supporting the fielding of the Army’s new Stryker vehicle. Shortly after its deployment, Stryker units played a key role in the War on Terror. Larry was part of the team responsible for "resetting" the vehicles after their deployments, ensuring they were refurbished and returned to service.
Larry is married to the former Susan Tines of Detroit, Michigan, and they have two children and five grandchildren.
